Preparation and Cooking Time: About 40 minutes, mostly inactive

Serves: 4

Ingredients

Instructions

Set a medium (4-quart) pot over medium heat, warm oil until shimmering. Add beef to pot, crumble and cook just until browned, about 5 minutes or so (it doesn’t need to be cooked through, just browned on the outside, it cooks further along with the rice).

Add water to the pot, increase heat to high and bring to a boil. Stir in rice mix, return to a boil. Cover pot and reduce heat to low; simmer for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes the water should be nearly all absorbed; stir/fluff rice, re-cover pot and allow to rest for 5 – 10 minutes before serving with hot sauce.

This looks delicious! Would this also be good with chicken or tofu?

Thanks, Tess! I think just about any ground meat or ground meat substitute would work just as well, adjusting the cooking times and methods as needed.
